PECB Certified Lead Cybersecurity Manager

A five-day PECB course in setting up and running a cybersecurity programme: governance, risk, controls and incident management. The exam is held on the final day.

Security work often ends up as a set of separate measures with no shared direction, which makes it hard to tell the board how well the organisation is actually prepared. This course covers how to build and run a coherent cybersecurity programme, from governance and roles through controls, incident management and measurement. It draws on international standards and established practice, including ISO/IEC 27032 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. The course is developed by PECB and delivered by Berigo.

Content

  • Day 1. Introduction to cybersecurity and starting up a cybersecurity programme: course objectives and structure, standards and regulatory frameworks, fundamental concepts, the cybersecurity programme itself, the organisation and its context, and cybersecurity governance.
  • Day 2. Cybersecurity roles and responsibilities, risk management, asset management and attack mechanisms.
  • Day 3. Cybersecurity controls, awareness and training, and cybersecurity communication.
  • Day 4. Incident management, monitoring and improvement: ICT readiness in business continuity, measuring and reporting cybersecurity performance and metrics, incident management, testing, continual improvement and closing of the course.
  • Day 5. Certification exam.

Certification

The exam runs for three hours and covers seven competency domains: fundamental concepts, initiating the programme and governance, roles and risk management, selecting controls, communication and training, integration with business continuity and incident management, and measuring and improving the programme. Once you pass, you can apply for a PECB credential. Provisional Cybersecurity Manager has no experience requirement, while Cybersecurity Manager, Lead Cybersecurity Manager and Senior Lead Cybersecurity Manager require increasing years of work experience and a set number of hours of cybersecurity activity. Every level requires you to sign the PECB Code of Ethics. If you do not pass, you are entitled to one retake at no extra cost within twelve months. Participants receive an attestation of course completion worth 31 CPD credits.
